The Redmond School District board approved a new science curriculum for sixth through eighth grades after the district’s adoptions team reviewed multiple vendors and pilot results. The selected program (referred to in the meeting by staff as “Style”) was chosen for its combined digital and printed materials, Spanish resources, in-platform formative assessments, and professional-development supports.
Why it matters: middle-school teachers will receive training and classroom support before the 2025–26 school year; materials and training are intended to align instruction with Oregon Science standards and to provide teachers with instant formative assessment data.
Selection process and rationale: district curriculum staff described a multi-step adoption process: comparing state-approved products, piloting three vendors, and collecting teacher and principal feedback. The selected product was favored for (1) a hybrid print/digital option (teachers requested opportunities to reduce screen time), (2) Spanish-language toggles for student-facing materials, (3) built-in formative assessments that provide instant feedback, and (4) vendor-provided professional development that includes on-site team teaching.
Costs and rollout: staff said the chosen option was the most cost-effective among the finalists. The district scheduled a planning/professional-development day for Aug. 28 and a vendor demo/team-teaching visit in October to support classroom launch. Staff will return with implementation details and early assessment data to the board.
Vote: the adoption motion was seconded and approved unanimously.
