The Redmond School District 2J facilities update outlined a heavy summer construction schedule, progress on multiple bid packages and early schematic design work for Redmond High School and Tumalo projects ahead of construction planned for summer 2026.
A district facilities staff member (presenting as “Chad”) told the board the district received bids for a Bern Patrick roofing project that came in well under budget and that the Ridgeview cooling project, multiple athletic‑field and track resurfacing jobs, and tennis court rebuilds are in procurement or preconstruction. He said the district will mobilize most contractors in early July and that athletic fields will begin mobilization in early June.
Chad described procurement methods: smaller projects use hard bid low‑bid openings with bid bonds and verification checks; larger projects use construction manager/general contractor (CMGC) procurement with division pricing and verification of exclusions; the district also uses interstate cooperative agreements for some technology, turf and furniture procurements. He said the district evaluates schedule, inclusions/exclusions, and contractor qualifications in selection.
On major projects, Chad said schematic design for Redmond High School produced higher independent cost estimates than expected, leading staff to re‑examine scope and identify cost savings and alternative approaches before moving to schematic design. Tumalo’s classroom additions and Redmond High construction are expected to start summer 2026 and run through summer 2027.
Chad also reported the bond oversight committee has convened once, described members as having construction and accounting backgrounds, and said committee minutes and reports will be posted online. He said some items tied to the 2021 bond remain in contingency and that contractors and permits have delayed completion of a concession‑stand container installation at Jay/Jaqua Fields.
Board members asked questions about procurement transparency, timeline flexibility and posting oversight minutes; staff said the oversight committee will provide regular updates and that project visuals and concept images would be shared with the board in a future meeting.
