Students from Ridgeview High School’s Girls Who Code club presented to the Redmond School District 2J board during the district’s student showcase, describing recent outreach and awards.
The club’s student presenters said they visited four elementary schools as part of a community outreach effort this week and reported strong early engagement. “We reached over, I think, 120 students,” one presenter said during the showcase, noting hands‑on activities and classroom visits that included younger students receiving encouragement and demonstrations.
Josh Davis, who introduced the group, told the board the club had visited elementary classrooms and that staff and families had responded positively. Student presenters described a mix of activities and learning: short coding lessons, introductions to Python, HTML/CSS and cybersecurity basics, and a brief interactive quiz played by board members and guests. They also highlighted recognition at regional events: in recent years club members won regional awards and were featured on local news for computer science education work.
Board members praised the students’ outreach and the volunteer work of advisors and parents. The presentation closed with a light‑hearted classroom quiz and the board thanked the students for their demonstration and for bringing district students into elementary classrooms.
The showcase was an informational item; no board action was required.
