Council approves rezoning for oil‑change shop at 901 E. Arkansas Lane

The Arlington City Council on June 10 approved a rezoning request to allow an auto service center at 901 East Arkansas Lane.
City planner Gertzen and applicant representative Nikki Moore described the proposal as demolition of an existing building and construction of a 1,723‑square‑foot Take 5 oil‑change facility with three drive‑through service bays. "These are all services that can be concluded in a matter of minutes," Moore said, describing minor auto repairs such as oil changes, fluid exchanges and wiper repairs.
Staff noted the site previously housed a gas station and convenience store; underground tanks were removed and the site passed environmental inspection, the applicant said. The proposal includes removal of nonconforming pole signs and new monument signage, street trees and landscaping along the public edge; the planning and zoning commission recommended approval by a 7‑0‑1 vote with stipulations to remove pole signs and integrate design elements compatible with the international corridor visioning efforts.
Councilmember Hogg moved to approve the rezoning; Councilmember Pham seconded the motion and the council adopted the ordinance.
The applicant said the project is intended to provide a neighborhood service and improve the streetscape at a hard corner in East Arlington. The council did not modify the stipulations recommended by the planning commission during the June 10 vote.
