Northeast Lakeview College (NLC), part of the Alamo Colleges District, presented plans July 14 to expand its New Braunfels operations by remodeling a recently acquired building and acquiring adjacent land to create a larger workforce training and student services campus.

NLC officials said the college purchased a former call-center building and invested in staffing and preliminary renovations to support a rapid enrollment increase at a satellite site. “We started out with 10 courses, no marketing, and we had 125 students,” Dr. Garcia of Northeast Lakeview College said. Enrollment at the local site grew to about 400 students by 2025, the college said, prompting a search for a larger facility.

NLC described a single‑phase remodel of the acquired building that staff and architects estimate would cost about $7 million, plus a 4.22‑acre land acquisition next door expected to cost about $2 million and roughly $1 million for specialized equipment. The college said it had reserved $4 million and identified $1 million in equipment funding under a new funding model, leaving an estimated funding gap of about $5 million for the full project. NLC representatives said a single‑phase approach reduces construction costs compared with a multi‑phase plan and simplifies accreditation requirements and the student experience.

Earlier in the meeting, the council approved by consent a resolution, recommended by the New Braunfels Development Corporation (NBDC), authorizing a project expenditure of up to $1,200,000 to Alamo Colleges District/Northeast Lakeview College for the proposed facility and career center. That consent-item resolution cites Texas Local Government Code sections 501.101 and 501.105 as authority for the New Braunfels economic development corporation’s action.

Council and staff members praised the college’s rapid growth and local investment. The city’s EDC representative, who introduced the project, said the expansion advances workforce development opportunities in the city’s fast-growing corridor. Dr. Garcia said the remodeled facility would house labs and classrooms for construction management, electrical and engineering technology, logistics and supply-chain programs, allied-health expansions including nursing, expanded biology and chemistry labs, advising, testing and tutoring, and student services to support dual-credit high school students.

NLC projected that the New Braunfels campus could serve more than 1,100 students in the facility by 2030 if enrollment trends continue. The council-approved NBDC expenditure reduces the college’s funding gap but does not commit city general funds; the NBDC is a local economic development entity that can use tax increment or other EDC revenue sources for project incentives per the cited Local Government Code sections.

No further council action on the college’s full project financing or construction timetable was taken on July 14; NLC said it aims to begin construction in late September or early October to open the remodeled facility in fall 2026 if funding and construction proceed as planned.
