The Fayetteville Planning Commission on June 23 approved a conditional use permit allowing a temporary fireworks sales tent on a 0.52-acre parcel east of 5720 East Huntsville Road. Planner Gretchen Harrison said the parcel is in the RSF-4 district and currently undeveloped; fireworks sales require a conditional use in that zoning district.
Harrison said the applicant proposed a roughly 800-square-foot tent with two to three employees and an expected 50–100 customers per day, with peak hours from about 6 to 9 p.m. The proposed sales period is one week, June 28–July 5, with operating hours roughly 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Parking and driveway access would be provided via an adjacent commercial property to the west, which staff said offers about 20 spaces. Given the temporary nature of the operation, staff recommended approval without requiring site improvements beyond standard permitting and permitting conditions.
Applicant Michael Rutledge attended remotely and declined to add further detail beyond the staff presentation. No public comment was recorded on the item. Commissioner Cabe moved to approve CUP 2025030, citing compatibility with adjacent properties and staff conditions; the motion carried on a roll-call vote. The conditional use is subject to the conditions listed in the staff report and any applicable permitting and safety requirements.
