The Fayetteville Planning Commission on June 23 approved a conditional use permit allowing a childcare facility at 3406 West Buckeye Street, a 0.18-acre RSF-4-zoned lot, after staff concluded the small operation meets the city’s conditional-use standards for child-care facilities.
Senior planner Donna Wansauer told the commission the property contains a 1,216-square-foot single-family dwelling the applicant proposes to use as a childcare center. The proposal would serve six children with one employee, operate Monday–Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and use an existing backyard for outdoor play. Wansauer said the required outdoor play-space minimum is 75 square feet per child and that the site “quite exceeds that,” and staff had received no public comments; staff recommended approval with the conditions listed in the staff report.
Applicant Laurie May described plans to care for three additional children beyond her own and said a family member lives two streets away and will move a vehicle during drop-off and pickup to free an on-site space. Commissioner Warner asked whether state law counts the operator’s own children in the child total; staff replied it does and that the applicant’s enrollment therefore triggers the CUP requirement.
Commissioner Warner moved to approve CUP 2025029 with compatibility conditions recommended by staff; the motion carried on a recorded roll call. The permit will proceed according to the conditions in the staff report and any applicable state licensing or registration requirements.
