The Board of Public Works and Safety on July 24 awarded demolition contracts for multiple city-initiated demolitions and approved an emergency demolition contract for a nuisance property where staff reported a recent fire.
Sherry Ritchie of the Code Enforcement Department told the board that public bids let on May 28 and June 3 produced the lowest and most responsive offers received July 10. For properties let on May 28, JA Shroyer Group was the low responsive bidder for 1021 Butler Street, 1714 Northeast Street and 2002 Glen Court for a combined total not to exceed $29,300. Wicker Excavating was the low responsive bidder for 1024 Sheridan Street at $12,100. B and B Construction of Richmond Inc. was low responsive bidder for 1226 Butler Street at $9,000.
For properties let on June 3, Wicker Excavating was low responsive bidder for 218 North Twentieth Street at $11,200; B and B Construction of Richmond Inc. was low responsive bidder for 221 Northwest East Street at $9,500; and JA Shroyer Group was low responsive bidder for 1505 North J Street at $4,490. The board voted to award the contracts to the three contractors in amounts not to exceed the reported bids.
Ritchie also requested approval of contract number 116-2025, an emergency demolition to B and B Construction of Richmond Inc. in an amount not to exceed $9,800 for the property at 122 North Seventeenth Street. On the record she said the property had been a nuisance for some time, “there has been a squatter in there. I had the property cleaned up twice, boarded once, and the gentleman keeps coming back and he actually started a fire. Okay. And so because of that, it needed to be torn down.” The board approved the emergency contract by voice vote.
All awards and the emergency contract were approved by voice votes as presented; the meeting record does not show individual roll-call vote tallies.
