Board OKs three change orders that increase downtown streetscape contract

The Board of Works voted to approve three change orders to the Downstone Street downtown streetscape project, increasing the contract by $113,613.45.
Engineering Department staff said the adjustments reflected work extending into 2025, unexpected underground construction delays and a materials change to match previously installed downtown planters. "Change order 2 was for an additional mobilization charge in the amount of $41,267, just based on work extending into 2025," Engineering Director Max said. "Change order 3 was related to underground work construction and unforeseen delays related to that in the amount of $49,152. And lastly, change order number 4 was for material costs only, just swapping out the planters to a bigger planter size consistent with what our parks department has installed previously in the downtown area."
City staff told the board that change orders 2 and 4 will be paid from the Redevelopment Commission (RDC) budget and that change order 3 will be paid from sanitary sewer and stormwater funds. "Change orders 2 and 4 are to be paid from RDC and has received RDC approval. Change order 3 is to be paid from sanitary sewer and stormwater. Obviously, we received utility board approval," Max said.
The board approved the recommendation unanimously.
The project previously received RDC oversight; the board did not detail a revised overall contract total in the meeting beyond the increase tied to the three change orders.
