Board of Works OKs three change orders for downtown streetscape work

The Board of Works voted to approve change orders 2, 3 and 4 for the downtown streetscape project, engineering staff said during the meeting. The change orders include an additional mobilization charge of $41,267 (change order 2), an underground construction/unforeseen delays item of $49,152 (change order 3), and a materials substitution (change order 4) to match previously installed downtown fixtures, engineering staff said. "Engineering department is recommending approval of change orders 2, 3 and 4 to the Downstone Street downtown streetscape project," an engineering representative said. Engineering staff told the board that change orders 2 and 4 will be paid from RDC (Redevelopment Commission) funds and that change order 3 will be paid from sanitary sewer and stormwater funds with utility board approval. The board approved the recommendation by voice vote after a motion to accept the change orders. The board did not read a consolidated, unambiguous total contract increase amount during the public discussion; engineering gave the three individual amounts listed above. The approvals carry the project forward with the specified additional mobilization, underground work and material adjustments; the board’s action was a voice vote recorded as "motion carries."
