Jim Wells County emergency management officials told the Commissioners Court on July 25 that federal and state disaster‑recovery assistance will remain available in Alice through early August as the county shifts from response to recovery.
An emergency management official said the county’s declaration runs out on Aug. 2 but that, after state coordination, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) center at the Alice location will remain open for in‑person assistance through Aug. 1. "The SBA is still gonna remain open until August 1 in person," the official said, urging residents who have not applied to visit the SBA center while it is available.
Officials reported that many applicants are now being approved for loans as they submit outstanding documents such as bank statements. County representatives said they have met with community organizations, including local community action groups, who will begin vetting and dispersing funds they received for recovery assistance; the county said some disbursements that had been expected in July were requested to be extended into August.
Emergency management staff signaled a transition toward recovery activities and noted county plans to conclude on‑site disaster assistance and prepare for normal county operations and events, including the county fair in early August.
The update was informational; commissioners took no formal action on the report during the meeting.
