The City of Kirkland announced July 24 that the swim area at Juanita Beach remains closed after Public Health—Seattle & King County found elevated bacteria levels this week. City hosts on the This Week in Kirkland podcast said signs are posted and the county will retest next week.
The closure applies to the water designated for swimming; the city said the park itself remains open and that the play structure, volleyball area and other park amenities are available. "Public health, Seattle King County found elevated bacteria levels again this week," Jen Davis Hayes said on the podcast, and she urged people and pets to stay out of the water.
City staff instructed beachgoers to follow posted warnings and said the county’s next test results will determine when the swim area can reopen. The podcast said the city will keep the public updated via its usual channels.
For now, visitors may use non‑swim parts of Juanita Beach Park but should heed posted closure notices. The city did not give a date for reopening beyond saying King County will retest next week.
