Dan, the district’s new chief financial officer, introduced himself to the board and outlined his onboarding and early work. “First of all, hello, everyone. I’m excited to be here,” Dan said. He reported limited handover time from his predecessor, described several introductory meetings with business and facilities staff, attendance at a school finance academy, and ongoing learning about the district’s financial systems.
On a board action item, Dan presented a resolution to declare a decommissioned server surplus and donate it to the Wharton School District in Washington state. The technology department had removed the server from service and deemed it incompatible with current systems; Dan said the server was “no longer compatible with what we're using.” A motion to approve the resolution was made and seconded, and the board approved the donation by voice vote.
Dan also updated the board on federal program funding. He said the district learned that the 21st Century Learning grant (after-school programming) will move forward and the district will receive those funds. Other federal dollars mentioned in a prior informational email remain under review; Dan said neither the state nor local districts had yet received the broader federal funds as of the meeting. The board noted federal program funds were included in the adopted budget but had not yet been received.
Dan said he has been in the office a short time, has met transportation and facilities staff, scheduled an auditor meeting, and is participating in a multi-year school business academy to learn the financial operations necessary for the role.
