Dr. Eric Irizarry, newly appointed superintendent of Staunton City Schools, introduced himself to the Staunton City Council on July 24 and described plans for a 100-day entry process that will include listening sessions across the city.
Irizarry, who said he was joining Staunton from Albemarle County (Charlottesville area), thanked the school board and city manager for the opportunity and said he and his family have already experienced local hospitality. He said his entry plan will include sessions with students, staff, families, business and community members, and expressed a goal of strengthening the partnership between the city and schools to support student success.
Councilors and those present welcomed Irizarry; no council action was required for the introduction. Irizarry said he would be in town for public events and community activities as he begins his tenure.
