Metro Arts leadership on July 24 announced reappointments to the Public Art Committee, a new finance hire and a commissioner resignation, and discussed consolidating audit and finance reporting into executive committee updates.
Chair West said she would reappoint Sarah Lee Byrd and Sean Giles to the Public Art Committee for terms ending in 2027 and praised their service. The transcript records the reappointment announcements; commissioners did not raise objections during the meeting discussion.
Staff also introduced Capri as the new finance manager and described an effort to fold the ad hoc Audit and Finance committee into standing executive reporting so financial updates become a regular part of executive committee and full commission meetings. Capri told the commission that she is still building standardized reports for commission use and that she supports dissolving the ad hoc committee because financials touch every committee’s work.
"As I begin in these first 3 months, there is a lot to do in terms of the arts commission's finances," Capri said, adding that her goal is to present financial information in a palatable, regular report for committees and the full commission. Staff recommended approving one outstanding Audit and Finance meeting minute before dissolving the ad hoc committee so no open items remain.
Chair West also announced that Commissioner Kurtz submitted her resignation because of ongoing scheduling conflicts and has been absent for several months; West said she will contact the mayor’s office about filling the vacant seat. Chair West thanked Kurtz for several years of service.
Commissioners discussed how best to integrate finance reporting into standing agendas and asked staff to produce formats that are accessible to nonfinancial members. Staff said commission members could forward examples of report formats to assist in designing monthly reports.
