City planning staff and commissioners told the Zoning Board of Appeals meeting that the Monona Transit Commission posted a new bus-transit survey and is seeking broad resident input before making further recommendations.
Staff said the survey, which compares two bus services and how each would operate in Monona, was posted the day before the meeting and is available online; hard copies are available at the library, city hall and the senior center. The Transit Commission and staff said they will not move forward on a service recommendation until they have survey results.
Planning staff also reported ongoing department-head work on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) objectives. Staff said the planning department and other departments are reviewing job-posting locations, public-notice practices and other outreach to broaden participation, and that the city is reviewing housing- and workforce-related strategies as part of those efforts.
Staff linked the transit outreach to previous planning work, noting bus service was cited in the 2015 sustainability plan and in a more recent DEI/DEIB report. The Transit Commission prepared a frequently asked-questions document to help residents compare services and urged residents to share the survey to maximize responses.
The meeting record shows no formal action was taken on transit or DEI items during this session; both remain in the study and outreach phases.
