Mister Kinkade, the district’s agriculture teacher, told the Richland Community School District No. 1 board that the FFA chapter reached 283 unduplicated students this year — roughly 45% of the high school enrollment — and that chapter activities drew broad student participation and external support. "We’re incredibly grateful for the support that we’ve been given from the school, the administration, the board as well as our community," Kinkade said.
The students and advisors framed the year around the three‑circle model of agricultural education — classroom and lab work, leadership and supervised agricultural experiences (SAEs). Student officers described SAE projects and awards: Kylie Coker said SAEs teach recordkeeping and financial responsibility; Savannah Seichel said 10 section winners and five district winners advanced, and she was a state runner‑up for a nursery operations proficiency award; the chapter reported 11 state FFA degrees and three American degrees this year.
Kinkade and student speakers listed two grants that supported program activities. They said the chapter received an Illinois State Board of Education incentive grant of $6,722 and a separate state ‘‘three circles’’ grant of $36,650 to support extended contract time and out‑of‑contract documentation for instructors. "We used $6,722 this year from Illinois State Board of Education incentive funding grant to purchase different things," Kinkade said; he gave hydroponics equipment as an example.
Students and advisors also highlighted competition results and travel: the chapter sent six teams to the national convention; poultry won a national championship and other teams placed regionally and at the state level across forestry, environmental and parliamentary procedure events. Advisors and board members praised the program and the FFA alumni for travel funding and scholarships.
No board action was taken during the recognition. Board members and the superintendent thanked the students, advisors and alumni for their work and for representing the district at state and national competitions.
The presentation closed with board appreciation for advisors and alumni and with students noting future recruitment and program goals for the coming school year.
