The facilities subcommittee on July 24 asked staff to produce a written status update on projects listed in a 2021 facilities assessment and to clarify which recommended repairs have been completed, remain outstanding or need updated condition assessments.
Lisa Manning and facilities staff told the committee they recovered consulting reports from EBI (the 2021 assessments), and noted the original set of recommendations spanned 10–20 years. Facilities staff asked Todd, the district facilities lead, to provide a summary for the four operating schools — the high school, Veterans, Village and Glover — with a written update by Aug. 31 on critical and noncritical items and what has been completed.
Committee members and staff discussed whether a separate feasibility study is needed for the Eveleth building or for an early‑childhood/transition program. The subcommittee noted feasibility work varies widely in scope and cost: a basic, internal feasibility or “pre‑feasibility” can be modest, while a full structural and programmatic feasibility intended to support a major renovation or new construction typically requires a larger budget and may need town-meeting funding. Staff said they will ask the OPM for a quote on a scoped feasibility so the committee can decide how much to invest.
Members also raised the idea of investing in a maintenance and asset-management system. The committee discussed software that tags mechanical equipment, tracks filter and preventive-maintenance schedules and issues time-stamped service records. Staff noted such systems have start-up costs plus recurring subscription fees and suggested the committee consider a FY27 capital request to cover initial procurement and evaluation.
Ending: Facilities will return with the Aug. 31 status summary of the 2021 assessments, a scoped feasibility quote from Left Field (or other vendors) and a recommendation about whether to pursue a maintenance-management platform in FY27 budget planning.
