The Committee on Parole denied Tyrone Charles’ parole request at a July 10, 2025 hearing. Representatives from the Louisiana Parole Project, family members and community organizations told the panel they would provide transitional housing, social-work support and employment opportunities.
Charles described his behavior change and institutional work as a kitchen employee and said he had served more than two-thirds of his sentence. Louisiana Parole Project staff said they would provide mentorship, substance-use screening, financial literacy and employment assistance and were prepared to host him in Shreveport.
Board members questioned Charles about prior disciplinary infractions and a 2022 intoxication write-up; one member raised concerns that the prisoner had used drugs in custody and that relapse risk remained. A board member voted to grant conditional release to the Louisiana Parole Project contingent on GED completion and random drug screens, but the decision required a unanimous vote; one member voted to deny, citing intoxication and prior violent offenses. The final outcome was a denial recorded at 10:26 a.m.
