Several town advisory boards reported recent activities at the July 24 meeting and the board issued two proclamations recognizing parks and public relations professionals.
Arts and Beautification: Lisa Hall, chair of the Arts and Beautification Committee, said the committee of 10 volunteers organized Art Fest, a revamped art and photography show with 75 pieces and juried awards, a community holiday event with Santa and cookie decorating and plans for 2026 including a community Christmas tree program and a quilt show. Hall said the committee is exploring partnerships with the Tennessee Art Association, Farragut Chamber of Commerce, Dogwood Arts and nearby South Knox initiatives to expand art rotations, murals and sculpture opportunities.
Tree Board: Mark Shipley reported that the Board of Zoning Appeals had not met in the past fiscal year and that the tree board — staffed largely by town employees and representatives from engineering, parks and public works and a utility representative — held three meetings and renewed Farragut's Tree City recognition. The tree board worked with Farragut Intermediate School on an Arbor Day program featuring third‑grade essays and an in‑school event attended by many students, and participated in Tennessee Tree Day, distributing 420 trees.
Visual Resources Review Board: Chair Marty Layman said the board met eight times during the fiscal year to review monument signs, tenant panels, a subdivision entrance sign, a menu board and ten landscape plans. The board discussed signs in the public right of way and recommended ordinance amendments to the board of mayor and aldermen; town attorney has prepared proposed amendments for board consideration.
Proclamations: The board designated July 2025 as Parks and Recreation Month and July 25, 2025 as Public Relations Recognition Day. The parks proclamation highlighted the mental‑health, physical and economic benefits of parks and recreation; the public relations proclamation recognized contributions of PR professionals.
Discussion vs. decision: these were informational reports and proclamations; no formal actions or votes were taken on committee recommendations at the July 24 meeting, though the Visual Resources Review Board's recommended signage amendments were forwarded to the board for future consideration.
