Crown Point approves purchase of LPR parking-enforcement system from T2 Parking Solutions

The Crown Point Board of Public Works and Safety on May 21 approved a purchase and agreement with T2 Parking Solutions to obtain license-plate-recognition (LPR) and GPS parking-enforcement technology for downtown enforcement, staff said.
City staff and police representatives told the board the system will allow officers to track when vehicles are first noticed on the square and to verify time limits and officer enforcement. Staff said the unit can print a citation at the vehicle and that training and software for year one were included in the packet. The staff presentation stated a first-year cost of $9,222; the packet and discussion also referenced a follow-on cost described in the meeting as $3,580,000 for the next two years, a figure that staff discussed during the meeting and which appears inconsistent with typical software renewal figures.
Amanda Carlson, present at the meeting, was identified as an additional resource on the technology. City staff said legal had reviewed the agreement. The board approved the purchase and agreement by voice vote.
Staff said the system is intended to improve enforcement of the city's two-hour parking ordinance on the square and to encourage the use of municipal lots; a designated parking-enforcement officer will use the equipment.
