The Board of Public Works and Safety accepted a base award for the city's lead service line replacement and approved a related task order, while noting the project may ultimately use up to $5 million in state funding.
The Crown Point City Board of Public Works and Safety on May 21 accepted a contractor award for the city's lead service line replacement project and approved a related task order for additional work.
City utilities staff said the base contract and mandatory alternates 1 through 5 were awarded to Gatlin Plumbing for a total of $3,347,000. Staff also told the board the full project could ultimately use up to $5,000,000 through a state funding mechanism. At the meeting the board approved task order 202503 in the amount of $369,851 by voice vote.
The city said it awarded the base bid plus required alternates up to what staff considered a safe amount under the available funding and that a construction contingency will be added as the work progresses. A staff member identified as Al said the task order was requested to be held earlier but was presented and approved at the meeting.
Board members asked for confirmation of task order numbers and amounts during discussion. The board approved the task order by voice vote (all in favor). The utilities representative said the larger project may expand in phases but emphasized staff’s intent to stay within the funding available so the city would not need to cover cost overruns.
The board did not adopt additional policy changes during the discussion; the actions taken were the contractor award and the task order approval.
