The Scott County Fiscal Court voted July 24 to extend a moratorium on the Georgetown–Scott County Planning Commission’s receipt and review of applications to establish RV campgrounds, moving the temporary ban’s end date to Dec. 27, 2025. The extension passed by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
The moratorium was first enacted by Resolution 24‑28 on Dec. 27, 2024 and extended by Resolution 25‑10 on June 13, 2025. The court’s July 24 draft resolution (25‑11) says the planning commission “needs additional time to complete the tasks outlined in resolution 24‑28 and resolution 25‑10.” The resolution the court read aloud says the moratorium is “hereby extended until 12/27/2025.”
Court members and staff said the extension is intended to allow public outreach before formal code changes. Court staff noted the planning commission has scheduled a public community meeting about a draft RV ordinance for July 31, 2025, at 6 p.m. at the public library and that the planning commission would then take the draft up in August before returning any formal recommendations to the fiscal court.
A magistrate said the public meeting will help gather feedback before the planning commission and fiscal court consider ordinance language. After brief discussion the court moved, seconded and voted to approve the resolution.
No technical changes to the underlying ordinance language or any final action on the draft ordinance occurred at the July 24 meeting; the court’s action only extends the prohibition on acceptance and review of new applications while the planning process continues. The planning commission’s subsequent meetings and any ordinance the commission or court adopts will determine the final regulatory framework and restrictions for RV campgrounds in unincorporated Scott County.
