Commander Agustin Huerta discussed the effects of tasers and chemical irritants during a Gov 101 interview, describing how they differ in duration and sensation.
"Taser is over in 5 seconds. Once you're done with the tasing, it stops. Like, the pain stops," Huerta said. By contrast, he described pepper spray as lasting longer: "Pepper spray is a gift that keeps on giving. It keeps activating. Try to wash it off because it's oil based, it it burns again."
The conversation also touched on pepperball munitions, which Huerta described as similar in appearance to paintballs but filled with capsaicin powder: "It kinda looks like a paintball then, but instead of paintballs, it has balls of, capsaicin powder. Capsaicin powder."
Huerta framed these descriptions as practical information about equipment law enforcement uses and the sensations people can expect, not as a discussion of policy or changes to use-of-force rules.
