The assistant superintendent updated the board on summer instructional programs, professional learning and curriculum work.
She said the district’s ESY and REACH programs are concluding next week and that two booster programs focused on algebra were under way: an Algebra 2 preparatory course run through the high school with about 18 students on the day she observed, and an eighth‑grade algebra readiness program with about 15 students (with some students participating virtually). Both programs are noncredit booster courses intended to strengthen algebra readiness.
The assistant superintendent summarized summer professional learning: a multi‑day Research for Better Teaching course, ongoing grade‑level curriculum and unit planning in all buildings, and scheduling consulting meetings with a consultant who worked with high school, elementary and middle school staff to examine prioritization of learning time.
She and staff reported math scope‑and‑sequence work across grades 5‑12 with high‑school and middle‑school teacher leaders; they discussed offering an introductory statistics course and strategies to maximize eighth‑grade access to Algebra I. She said the district received ELA pilot materials (Benchmark Advance) for elementary and “bridal” [bridal appears in transcript; context indicates likely elementary/bridging materials] programs and that training with the vendor is set for August 22.
Board members had no substantive objections; the report was informational and staff will continue curriculum work during the school year.
