Huachuca City Chief Wyatt Berry invited the public to a combined National Night Out and Back-to-School Fair set for tonight at the town complex behind town hall. Berry said the event, which also coincides with the school’s meet-the-teacher night, runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and free haircuts begin at 5 p.m. at the library.
Berry said multiple local, county and federal agencies will attend, including local police and fire departments, Border Patrol and Customs and Border Protection, and representatives from federal drug enforcement agencies. He said donated backpacks, school supplies and local health organizations will have booths, and attendees will see department vehicles on display.
Berry described grant-funded vehicle purchases for the department: three vehicles from a DEMA grant “totaling over about $300,000,” two 2023 Tahoes from Operation Stone Garden, two 2024 Silverados and one leased vehicle that the town is purchasing via a municipal lease (he said the lease cost the town about $26,000 last year). Berry said one vehicle is dedicated as a school resource officer car.
Berry also noted the department created a paid part-time officer program to supplement coverage and said the town received broad community donations to support the event. He encouraged residents to attend the free community night.
