Mayor Lawrence C. Hawkins III announced a slate of family-focused events in August during a brief recorded message, saying residents should “mark your calendars” for Pretzel Fest, a Goldfish Grab and a Junior Olympics at the city Recreation Center. "Until next time, remember, eat, shop, and play Springdale," Hawkins said.
Hawkins said Pretzel Fest is scheduled for Aug. 2 from 1 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The mayor described the festival as including the Family Mud Quest obstacle course, a kids zone, an adult zone, food trucks, adult beverages, live music — including acts he named as DJ CEO, Pear To The Caribbean and Nick and Karate Girls — and a drone show.
Hawkins also announced a Goldfish Grab at the city pool on Aug. 9 at 12:30 p.m., in which children will try to collect small toy goldfish for prizes. He said the Junior Olympics will be held at the Recreation Center on a Saturday in August from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; Hawkins did not specify an exact date for that Saturday in his announcement.
The remarks were a mayoral public-information announcement and did not include policy actions, budget figures or permitting details. The message did not specify admission costs, whether events require registration, or which city departments or outside vendors are managing each activity. Residents seeking those details should contact the Office of the Mayor or the Recreation Department, Hawkins said he would provide additional information in future notices.
