Northampton’s Legislative Matters Committee voted July 17 to forward an ordinance to the City Council that would prohibit parking on portions of Bedford Terrace and otherwise align the municipal ordinance with actual on‑the‑ground parking markings.
Committee members said the change would correct inconsistencies between ordinance text and current street markings. “So this is, actually just bringing the ordinance into line with what's actually on the ground,” Counselor Jarrett said.
Counselor Jarrett moved a positive recommendation and Counselor Perry seconded the motion; the committee approved the referral by voice vote with no recorded opposition. The item is recorded in committee materials as ordinance 25‑293 and was referred by the City Council on 07/10/2025. The committee action is a recommendation to the full City Council; any enforcement or signage work will follow council action and public‑works scheduling.
