The Cudahy City Council voted Tuesday to authorize staff to apply for a $3.5 million Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grant through the California Department of Parks and Recreation to support the Clara Expansion Park Rehabilitation Project.
Administrative Analyst Daniella Trujillo told the council the grant is intended to preserve recreational space and would be used to close a budget gap for construction items including an ADA‑compliant playground, renovated basketball court, new soccer field, walking paths and other park elements. “This grant will be used to close the budget gap for the construction costs of the project,” Trujillo said, and staff identified the Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust as a project partner assisting with grant administration.
Funding and match: LWCF grants require a 50% match. Trujillo said the city intends to meet the match through existing funding sources already secured, including Measure A local allocation, per‑capita funding and a state budget allocation.
Council action: The council adopted Resolution No. 25‑43 (staff referred to the application authorization resolution number) and voted in favor of applying for the LWCF grant. Staff and the Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust will proceed with the application process.
Next steps: If awarded, the LWCF funds would be used to supplement existing project funds and close the construction budget gap; the council asked staff to continue coordinating grant administration and report back on progress.
