The Waterford Police chief presented June public safety statistics to the council and described a coordinated response that led to three arrests in a June 16 carjacking.
For June, the chief said patrol responded to 326 calls for service and made 77 self‑initiated stops for a total of 403 events; the department made 22 arrests in June, 19 of which were booked and three were cited out. The investigations division began the month with eight open investigations; five cases were closed through arrest, and investigators executed two search warrants in the city during June.
The chief described a June 16 carjacking response in detail: multiple units and county sheriff deputies converged, the stolen vehicle was located and a pit maneuver brought that vehicle to a stop, and another fleeing vehicle was stopped near Waterford Irrigation; three people were arrested and there were no reported injuries. “It ended up with everybody being arrested with 0 injuries,” the chief said after reviewing body‑worn camera and policy compliance.
Council members asked about fireworks enforcement over the Fourth of July. The chief said deputies issued citations but did not have a total count available at the meeting and promised to provide citation totals at a future meeting. The chief said enforcement is difficult to fully suppress and that the department will continue to coordinate regionally.
No motions or formal council actions were taken on the police report; the item was informational.
