A resident who represents La Mesa Village Plaza told the City Council on July 22 that new and existing parking pressures are creating traffic safety concerns on Date Street near Allison Avenue and at the Farmer’s Table intersection on La Mesa Boulevard.
Antonia Lopez said the La Mesa Village Plaza’s 92 units have begun experiencing spillover parking that leaves drivers unable to complete turns at Date from Allison because vehicles are parked too close to the corner. “That little space needs to be painted red. That's a safety issue, okay, as far as I'm concerned,” Lopez said, and asked the council to evaluate the area for traffic and parking changes.
Lopez also suggested removing or converting a stop sign at Date and La Mesa Boulevard (near the Farmer’s Table intersection) to a yield sign after observing that many drivers do not stop there. She asked the council to address enforcement or change the control at that intersection if compliance cannot be achieved.
The comment was presented during public comment; the transcript shows no immediate staff response or council action directing staff to change curb markings or remove the stop sign. Lopez asked the council to evaluate traffic and parking in the area and to consider targeted changes to improve safety.
If the council chooses to act, typical next steps would include a traffic study or field observation by Public Works and Transportation staff, followed by a recommendation back to council or administrative action under engineering standards.
