Jennings County High School to offer CDL certification through new CTE program

Jennings County School Corporation staff announced a new commercial driver’s license (CDL) certification program in the high school Career and Technical Education (CTE) area. The district said 12 students have signed up for the inaugural year and that the program will combine classroom instruction with required behind-the-wheel lab time.
A staff presenter said the district is partnering with the transportation department to run the program and will seek approval at a future meeting to hire adjunct instructors with the required CDL credentials. The positions would be less-than-part-time, described as the equivalent of two class periods every other day, to cover classroom instruction and driving lab hours.
Board members called the program “exciting” and asked no substantive questions during the informational presentation. Staff said they will bring formal personnel requests related to the program to the board at the next meeting for approval.
