District outlines human sexuality curriculum changes; parents to receive opt-out notices after approval

The Jennings County School Board received an informational presentation about its human sexuality education curriculum and planned parent notification. A staff presenter described the grade-level structure: sixth- and eighth-grade lessons are four or five consecutive daily presentations of 45–60 minutes each; the high school program runs three to five days. The presenter said Senate Enrolled Act 422 introduced changes that add specific videos to the materials, including a fetal-development video and a video on fertilization. The presenter said parents will be notified about whether lessons are presented in single-sex or mixed groups and will be given the option to refuse their child’s participation.
The board was told letters to parents will be distributed after board approval; Parent Square will be the notification channel. The presenter also said curriculum flyers were included in the board packet and that parents may review materials on Clarity’s website, iDecideForMe.com, once the board approves the curriculum.
