The Wenatchee City Council on July 24 adopted Ordinance No. 2025-08 to amend city code sections 1.11.0.01 and 1.11.0.02 to clarify the powers, duties and reporting relationships of the city administrator.
City Attorney Danielle Marchant told the council the change aligns the code with state statute governing municipal administration and with a recently revised city-administrator job description prepared by human resources. Marchant said the ordinance removes a code provision that required the city administrator to report to both the mayor (executive) and the council (legislative), noting the state statute identifies the mayor as the executive officer and permits the mayor to assign administrative duties to an appointed city administrator.
The ordinance also removes overlapping duties in the code that conflicted with department head responsibilities and explicitly assigns duties consistent with the updated job description. Marchant said the mayor and department staff participated in developing the job description and the proposed code amendments.
Council Member Ewer moved to adopt Ordinance No. 2025-08, amending sections 1.11.0.01 and 1.11.0.02; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously.
The ordinance takes effect as specified in the adopting language; council discussion did not alter the substantive changes presented by the city attorney.
