A committee member updated the Rainier City Council that Rainier Days planning is underway, raffle ticket sales are going well and the committee would like the mayor and mayor pro tem to carry a “Welcome to Rainier Days” banner at the head of the parade on Aug. 9.
Council members agreed in principle to lead the banner and to recruit alternates if one official cannot attend. The committee asked for volunteers to manage parade lineup; a council member who ran parade organization in the past agreed to assist.
Councilors and the committee discussed festival operational items: the need for an enclosed, mobile serving structure for beverage service (a small trailer or portable building), sources and budgeting for replacement of the current gazebo, and volunteers to research options and price a replacement before the next festival. The committee said two bartenders working in a small, enclosed unit would be preferred for Rainier Days’ busy weekends.
Committee members also updated the council about other logistics: staging of bands and contest entries, and coordination of volunteer schedules. The council did not take a funding vote; instead staff and volunteers were asked to bring vendor options and price estimates so the council can consider a purchase at a later meeting.
