The Conway City Council voted 8–0 on July 22 to approve a conditional-use permit for Compass Academy to construct and operate school facilities at 225 Tilke Avenue in an I-3 industrial zone.
Council member Jake Hawkins presented the application and noted the Planning Commission reviewed the request the previous night and recommended approval unanimously. The applicant’s plan calls for constructing 16 classrooms with additional room for future expansion. Hawkins displayed traffic ingress and egress arrows and said utilities and staff review were complete.
Council discussed operating hours. The applicant initially requested hours starting at 7 a.m.; the Planning Commission amended the request to permit activity until 9 p.m. to accommodate after-school programs and other activities. Council approved the conditional-use permit with that amendment.
The action was procedural and carried by unanimous vote; the public hearing on the related drainage-easement item was set separately for August 12.
