The Maryville Town Council on July 22 approved a donation agreement for roughly six acres of land intended for a new fire station in the 9100 block of Colorado Street, moving the project closer to closing. Councilman Jerry Pettit moved to accept the agreement and Councilwoman Uslak seconded; the motion passed in a 6-0 roll-call vote. Pettit amended the motion to include payment of donor attorney fees up to $10,000.
The donated tract is about six acres and council members discussed a valuation described in the meeting as about $1,000,000. Pettit thanked the donor, identified in the discussion as the owner of Polycon Industries (referred to in the meeting as Mr. Blitzstein), and asked staff to send a letter of appreciation. Town officials said the donation makes the fire station project feasible by reducing land acquisition costs.
Town staff and council members said next steps are closing on the property and continuing project planning. Michael Griffin, speaking for town staff, confirmed council action and said staff would proceed with the closing process. Council members did not set a date for closing during the meeting.
No formal conditions beyond the attorney-fee cap and the standard closing process were recorded in the meeting minutes; council members described the donation as a major contribution toward making the fire station project possible.
The vote was unanimous; with the land donation approved, town staff said they would move forward to finalize closing and related project steps.
