The Hardship Leave Bank Board approved 480 additional donated leave hours for applicant Jacob Turpin after reviewing a July 8 application at a meeting that convened at 9:22 a.m.
The board voted to grant the extra hours after the pool manager said the leave bank remains well funded. The applicant previously received 480 hours on Jan. 10 for a family medical condition that the board was told is ongoing.
At the meeting the pool manager said, “our pool’s really, really healthy,” and said the fund had 9,089 hours remaining. The pool manager also told the board that donations were halted earlier this year once the pool reached a stated threshold; the transcript did not record that threshold number clearly. The board noted that awarding the additional 480 hours would not deplete the current balance.
Board Member 2 moved to approve the request for 480 hours; Board Member 1 seconded. The chair called for a voice vote and recorded no opposition; the chair then announced the motion passed and the 480 hours were approved. The applicant’s July 8 request sought supplemental time beyond the 480 hours previously granted on Jan. 10. The board referenced the program maximum available to an applicant as 1,440 hours when discussing limits.
The record contains an inconsistency in the applicant’s surname: the pool manager and the application packet identify the applicant as Jacob Turpin, while the motion recorded at the meeting used the surname Turner. The board did not address that discrepancy on the record; the minutes should clarify the correct legal name for the approved award.
There was no other substantive business and the board adjourned following the vote.
