At the July 16 Common Council meeting, Greg, identified as chief of staff for the City of Lawrence, announced that the city had been selected by the National League of Cities to participate in the 2025 Community Health and Well-Being Accelerator for the Live Longer in Lawrence campaign.
“Two days ago the city of Lawrence was recognized for their live longer in Lawrence campaign, and it says they are delighted to form that the city of Lawrence has been selected to take part in the 2025 community health and well-being accelerator,” Greg said, reading the notification to council members.
Greg also invited councilors and the public to several upcoming events: a backpack giveaway at Alexander Park on Sunday, July 20, from noon to 2 p.m.; the Live Longer in Lawrence Community Partner Summit on Wednesday, July 23, 8:30 a.m. to noon at the community center in North Franklin, with Dr. Kunzer leading discussions; and a small ceremony honoring former mayors next Friday outside the public assembly room, attended by family representatives of previous administrations.
Councilor Crone praised Arts for Lawrence’s summer day camp during the meeting, saying her daughter attended drama and percussion weeks and returned home “full of stories” and excited. Councilor Freeman asked the assembly to observe a moment of silence in remembrance of former Mayor Bob Sterek; the council concurred.
The recognition by the National League of Cities and the announced events were informational items; no formal council action was recorded.
