Council members raise neighborhood maintenance and safety issues including water leak, footbridge repair and stop‑sign request

Several council members used the June 2 Lawrence City Common Council meeting to report neighborhood maintenance and safety issues and to request staff follow up.

A council member said they had been acting as a liaison between the Sunset Cove Homeowners Association and Citizens Energy regarding a suspected water leak at 7974 Glenview Drive near Fox Road; a utility technician inspected the site and the council member said they expected a report the next day on responsibility and next steps.

Another council member reported a deteriorated wooden footbridge at the front of the Crossing South neighborhood (south of 80 Sixth Street), describing it as splintered and dry‑rotted on the wooden sidewalk sections that cross a creek. The member said the surrounding sidewalk is paved but the wooden sections need repair and that they would contact the Department of Public Works about options.

Council members also relayed a request from the Crystal Point homeowners for an all‑way stop at the intersection of Bent Oak Lane and Briar Hill Lane to reduce speeding, and flagged a large and expanding pothole or crater at Van Cleve and 40th Street that is being hit repeatedly by heavy trucks; a council member asked staff to check whether the repair was on the docket.

Separately, a council member noted that pollinator‑friendly plantings funded years earlier by the council are thriving and invited residents to see the gardens. Councilors said they would pursue the maintenance and traffic‑control requests with relevant city departments.
