Board honors Sheriff Charles W. Foster Jr.; declares service pistol surplus and conveys it for $1

The Wood County Board of Supervisors on July 22 adopted a resolution honoring Sheriff Charles W. Foster Jr. for 38 years of law enforcement service and approved declaring his service pistol surplus to convey it to him for $1.

Chair Brian W. Baughton read the resolution praising Foster’s "unwavering commitment to public safety, building strong partnerships within the community, and leading the Wythe County Sheriff's Office with fairness and professionalism." The board approved the resolution by roll call vote.

Sheriff Foster spoke to the board, thanking administration and staff, and said, "the sheriff is only as good as his deputies," adding he hoped the office would continue to receive support under new leadership. After the resolution, the board approved a motion to declare his service pistol surplus and convey it to Foster for $1; the motion passed by roll call.

The resolution was to be entered into the official record and presented to Foster as a token of appreciation. The conveyance of the pistol was authorized at the meeting; administrative staff will complete the necessary paperwork to transfer the item.
