Cochise County supervisors unanimously canvass CD-7 special election results

Elections Director Savant presented a brief synopsis of the election to the board, saying the State of Arizona had completed logic-and-accuracy equipment certification on June 13 and that the county operated three vote centers in Douglas, Bisbee and Palominas. "All vote centers open promptly at 6AM and closed promptly at 7PM," Savant said. She reported the first upload of results at 8:03 p.m. July 15 and the final upload at 8:45 p.m., and said the hand count audit convened by party chairs selected several batches by lot and was completed with "100% accuracy."
The board heard additional details during discussion: Savant said the hand-count selection process was conducted July 16, and that audit staff and 12 poll workers performed the hand count at the Elections Department on July 19, commencing at 9 a.m. and finishing at 10:15 a.m. She also reported quick fixes for a small number of signage complaints in the Palominas district and that two envelope openers were used for ballot processing; other new equipment was in county storage and is not scheduled for routine use until a future election cycle.
Supervisor Gomez moved, "I move to accept the election results submitted by the Cochise County Elections Department as the official canvas for the special election held on 07/15/2025." Chairman Antonari seconded the motion. The board voted 3-0 to approve the canvass; each supervisor voted in the affirmative. The board directed county staff to transmit the canvassed results to the Arizona Secretary of State as required.
The meeting item was limited to the canvass; no additional policy actions or changes to election procedures were taken at the meeting. Several supervisors discussed offering candidates or their representatives the opportunity to preview the ballot before an election and confirmed that candidates may designate someone to inspect the ballot when that service is offered.
The board adjourned after completing the canvass and confirmed its next meeting date.
