County proposes contract with Jefferson Electric to finish AMI metering in remote areas to avoid six-figure expense

Public Works staff told the committee July 22 they want to enter a contract with Jefferson Electric to complete the county's AMI metering in remote areas rather than installing the equipment themselves.
"We're about 96 or so percent done with the county, but there are some remote areas that we can't get to," Mr. Gordon said. He told the committee that county staff explored installing base stations and towers themselves and estimated that option would be "in the $95,000 range." Staff presented Jefferson Electric's alternative as a lower-cost option.
Staff summarized Jefferson Electric's proposed costs in several ways during the meeting: a recurring fee described as "$1,600 a year or $16.40 annual cost" plus a one-time setup fee of $8,200, and an overall total cost described as "$9,840 to add this part ... out in the Winfield area." Staff recommended approval of the contract.
A motion to approve the item was moved and seconded on the consent agenda and adopted. The committee did not record a roll-call tally in the transcript.
