Longview honors transit passenger Corey Street for removing an aggressive rider from a bus

The Longview City Council publicly thanked Corey Street on July 24 for intervening during an incident on a Longview Transit bus in late May.
City staff described a roughly 50‑minute trip during which a passenger became “increasingly agitated and aggressive,” creating a safety risk for the driver and others. At personal risk, Corey intervened and helped remove the passenger from the bus. “At risk to his own personal safety, Corey intervened in the situation and was able to help forcefully remove the passenger from the bus to protect his fellow passengers,” the mayor said when introducing the recognition.
Street told the council he “love[s] my city” and that staff and other residents had been supportive since the incident. The transit operation provided gift cards and asked Street to accept a public commendation at the meeting. Councilmembers thanked him for his “active bravery” and “selflessness.”
There was no formal city action recorded beyond the public recognition; Longview Transit staff said the department had provided internal acknowledgement and small gifts to Street and would continue to support driver and passenger safety initiatives.
