Yukon Route 66 Main Street finalized its annual agreement with the Oklahoma Main Street Center and will ask the Yukon City Council for a formal resolution of support, Director Vicky Davis said at the July 23 board meeting. The board also learned that six of its nominations advanced into the statewide Top 3 for the Oklahoma Main Street Awards, with winners announced at the awards presentation on Sept. 30.
The agreement was described as a three-way signature involving the organization’s president, the director and an attorney representative from the Department of Commerce. “At this point, the agreement has been signed. It’s a 3 way signature, and our president has signed as well as myself and the attorney representative with the Department of Commerce,” Vicky Davis said. She added that the remaining administrative step is a resolution of support to be placed on the city council agenda: “I will be making a request to put that on the city council agenda very soon.”
The nut graf: the signed agreement maintains Yukon's status as a fully designated Main Street community and enables access to state-level technical support and competitive award consideration. Advancing six nominations into the Top 3 statewide raises the profile of several Yukon projects and individuals ahead of the Sept. 30 awards presentation.
Board members were briefed on the nominations and the administrative next steps. Davis said the nominations — drawn from projects, businesses and individual contributions — were submitted only by fully designated communities. She reported that roughly seven or eight nominations had been submitted and that six placed in Top 3 statewide. The board did not take a formal vote on the item; Davis stated she will request that staff place a resolution of support on a future Yukon City Council agenda.
Questions from board members focused on timing and logistics for the council request and award recognition at the state ceremony. No formal action or council resolution was recorded as adopted during this Main Street board meeting. The board will monitor the city council agenda after Davis files her request and will report back on any formal council action.
For further information, the board directed members to follow updates from the director and to anticipate the council agenda item request from Davis.
