The superintendent told the board the administration seeks referral of policy BBBB (new member orientation), EFAC (acceptable use policy for artificial intelligence), GBA (contracts and compensation), JCDAA (student smoking, tobacco and marijuana use), JCDAB (student alcohol and drug use) and JCDAE (student use of electronic devices). The board approved the referrals on a roll-call vote after a motion by Board Member Charles Piazza, seconded by Board Member Dominguez.
The referral begins a committee review but did not change any existing rules. The superintendent framed the referral as a procedural step to allow committee members and staff to draft, edit and return recommended language to the full board for future action.
Board members asked no substantive questions on the floor before the vote. The motion carried on a roll-call tally in which all present members voted yes.
The referrals mean the policies will be discussed at the policy committee meeting before any final adoption. The board did not set dates for committee consideration during the meeting, and the superintendent said no final policy changes were adopted at the June 3 session.
