JEFFERSON PARISH, La. — The Jefferson Parish School Board approved Change Order No. 4 for construction at Bonneville Magnet Academy High School during its July 21 special session, agreeing to a not-to-exceed amount of $141,856 and an extension of 31 days.
"Therefore move that the Jefferson Power School Board accept change order number 4 for construction project 22-34C, hurricane Bridal roof replacement, interior repairs, and site work at Bonneville Magnet Academy High School with a not to exceed amount of $141,856 and 31 days," Mister Moise said while reporting out of the Facilities Committee. He said the committee’s architect/engineer (Duplanche and Merrick) and the facilities department and CSRS recommended the change order.
Moise described three subelements that necessitated the extra funds and time: removal and disposal of existing conduits in Buildings 800, 600 and AA at a value of $53,353; extra mobilization onto newly added roofs totaling $24,050 and 10 additional days; and additional vinyl composition tile (VCT) and base work to replace material removed by asbestos abatement for a value of $64,500 and 21 additional days. The combined not-to-exceed amount and time were presented to the board as emergent work discovered during reconstruction.
The motion was seconded by Doctor LeBlanc and passed by roll call; the presiding officer announced the motion carried.
Why it matters: The change order funds and schedule extension address concealed conditions and associated asbestos-removal impacts discovered during ongoing reconstruction at Bonneville Magnet Academy High School. The transcript records the amounts for each subelement and the recommended 31-day total extension.
The Facilities Committee reported it had deferred one other agenda item at its July 16 meeting due to emerging information; no further instructions or follow-up reporting requirements were recorded during the special session.
The meeting did not specify the exact funding source for the change order within the project budget, nor did it record further contract amendments beyond the approval of Change Order No. 4.
