The Natchitoches Parish School Board was told the district’s reduction in force is complete, and administrators are reviewing pay and duties for employees asked to take on additional responsibilities.
Superintendent Dr. Eloy told the committee meeting, “The riff is complete,” and reported a 7.5% reduction in full-time equivalent employees districtwide and a 14% reduction at the central office. He said about 80% of the RIF was achieved through attrition, retirements and incentives rather than involuntary separations.
The superintendent said the district will return to the board in August with updated job descriptions following position consolidations. “We will be bringing that to you for an update,” he said, noting the packet will include extensive job descriptions for roles that changed. Staff members are reviewing cases where employees are taking on multiple duties to determine appropriate compensation, Dr. Eloy said: “Mister Walska and myself in HR today looked at those same folks impacted by taking on multiple duties and looking at compensation.”
Board members asked how custodial and school secretarial staffing decisions were made; staff explained reductions in some categories reflected the district closing two campuses and the resulting change in square footage to staff formulas. The superintendent and HR staff said they will meet with affected employees and principals to align duties and pay while maintaining the district’s fiscal goals.
No formal board action was recorded on the RIF itself during the meeting; the superintendent said personnel lists and the RIF delineation appear in the personnel report for board reference.
Board members and staff said they will continue discussions with affected employees and bring finalized compensation recommendations to the board at a future meeting.
