District transportation staff told the board the first year of the district’s bus-tracking app produced little sustained feedback, but officials acknowledged intermittent mapping errors and parent calls about incorrect bus locations. The board also raised concerns about bus overcapacity and vehicle air conditioning reliability.
Transportation Director Mr. Baptiste said the district “maintained a safe, reliable service across all of our routes” and completed special-needs training for drivers and monitors this spring. He said summer routes were designed to mirror the previous year to minimize disruption and that the department is actively recruiting drivers and conducting preventive maintenance.
When asked about the district’s tracking app, staff reported only “radio silence” after the initial troubleshooting month, though some parents called about seeing a bus on the map that was not at that location. Mr. Kozad (operations) said staff worked with parents case by case and that issues were fixed quickly. Board members raised a concern about reported overcapacity on some buses; transportation staff asked board members to forward complaint details for follow-up and said they would investigate.
On equipment, the director said all current buses are air-conditioned and that arriving replacements are also air-conditioned; staff said they expect fewer AC-related failures moving forward. The director said internal audits and public engagement would continue over the summer and that fall-route planning would begin soon.
No formal action was taken; the report was received as informational.
