School board approves revised budgets and one‑time salary supplement for employees

Committee reports and finance presentations at the March 8 meeting led the Terrebonne Parish School Board to approve revised budgets for several operating funds and to authorize a one‑time salary supplement for employees for fiscal year 2021–22.

Rebecca Breaux, the district chief financial officer, presented revised operating budgets and sales‑tax reports and explained the recommendation that the board approve one‑time supplements for full‑time employees for the fiscal year. The committee motion, as read at the meeting, called for a $1,500 one‑time supplement for instructional professional employees and additional supplements for other employee groups; funds were to be derived from SR‑2 (special revenue) funds and paid in March 2022.

Board members praised employees for pandemic and hurricane recovery work. "The bonus is our way of thanking our employees at all levels for placing themselves on the front line during the COVID‑19 pandemic, as well as enduring the ongoing recovery efforts of Hurricane Ida," a presenter said during discussion.

Committee recommendations also included authorizing yearly bids for child‑nutrition products, accepting low bids for kitchen equipment purchases, authorizing advertisements for maintenance and custodial bids, declaring a small parcel of property surplus, and granting a right of way to the Terrebonne Levee and Conservation District for levee construction and maintenance pending attorney review. Those committee recommendations were approved during the meeting as presented.

Ending: The board approved budget revisions and the one‑time supplement and instructed staff to proceed with the advertised bids and required legal reviews. The board asked that appraisal and process details for surplus property sales be routed through the appropriate committee before final disposition.
